Again, I was cleaning out files and found something I'd saved from way back when but didn't know what exactly to do with it. Now I do--I'll post it for others to read and benefit from.
"Like Chasing The Wind"
The things we possess often possess us. The homes we buy sometimes consume far too much of our time and money in repairs and improvements. Our cars and recreational vehicles require constant attention. Appliances purchased to make life easier sometimes make our lives more complex as we frustrate ourselves to maintain them.
Working for things, says the preacher in Ecclesiastes, is "like chasing the wind". Working and earning, saving and spending, garnering and stockpiling--these things consume so much of our lives that we might be called a generation of wind-chasers!
But those who are pleasing in the Lord's sight, says the preacher, are not those who chase the wind. God operates on a different set of values. His gifts are given freely, at His pleasure. He delights in people, not things.
God does not always bless His people with material "creature comforts". But his far-more-valuable gifts of wisdom, knowledge, and happiness--not to found in the things of life--are given in abundance to those who walk in His ways!

I wonder what the world would be like if we all practiced giving freely, no strings attached? Even to someone who has hurt us or done us wrong in the past? Just giving and helping others, expecting nothing in return. Are you willing to try it?
